Senior Project Reflevction

(1) Positive Statement
What are you most proud of in your 2-Hour Presentation and/or your senior project? Why? in my 2 hr I am most proud of eye fact that I was able to get my message across, that beauy is not what we see in the media, it's what is inside of people.

(2) Questions to Consider
a.     What assessment would you give yourself on your 2-Hour Presentation (self-assessment)? Why?
P. I met all requirements for a proficient presentation. i completed the minimum of 30 minutes talk time, as well as had 3 answers and activities that were well related to each other. I submitted my lesson plans on time the day before and on the blog the weekend before my presentation. I set up the classroom before students entered and took everything down within 20 mintues of my presentation ended.

b.     What assessment would you give yourself on your overall senior project (self-assessment)? Why?
AP+/P
I completed all assignments and components. My research is the only reason I think i would deserve anything lower than a P.

(3) What worked for you in your senior project?
My 2 hr. I think my service learning and my 2 hr worked for me. My service learning was not only fun, but it was a big part of my project, giving me first had experience with the miss america organization. Also I think my 2 hr just really fell into place for me. I won't really be sure if I actually did well until I receive my grade for it, but I was very happy with the way it turned out and I thought the activities fit in nicely with my answers. I also talked with a few juniors and seniors afterwards and they told me that they understood the point I was trying to get across, which was that the images they see constantly in the media aren't real and shouldn't be compared to.

(4) What didn’t work for you in your senior project?
Research. My research was very bad the first half of the year. Research was the reason I had to change my EQ.

(5) Finding Value
How has the senior project been helpful to you in your future endeavors?   Be specific and use examples.  It definitely changes the way is see the world around me. My whole project has taught me that beauty is always inside a person. It really has changed my views on my own body image as well. I had always kind of looked down on myself for not looking like the people I saw through the media. I had always known that it was unfair to judge myself and others based on the images I saw on TV, in magazines, ext. but it was until I completed this project that it really sunk in. I realized that I just can't compare myself or anyone else to the Photoshopped images I see all over the place.

Blog 24: Independent Component 2

Literal
(a) Statement saying: “I, Brittney Morales, affirm that I completed my independent component which represents 30 hours of work.”
(b) I interviewed and created a scrap book of 10 and their view on beauty.

Interpretive
I started by interviewing 10 people, from 6 to 70 years old, individually, asking 3 specific questions. The questions were, "what is beauty? Who exemplifies beauty? If you could change 1thing about yourself what would it be?" each question had a purpose. The first question was to see how they find beauty in others. Question 2 was to see exactly what they think a beautiful person looks like. And question 3 was to see how they judge themselves when it comes to beauty. I spent about 3 hours interviewing each person, as well as putting their scrap book page together.

 Applied
How did it help you answer your EQ?  Be specific and use examples.
My EQ is all about what influences our societies veins on beauty, so it was great to get an insight on what the girls around me think beauty is. I interviewd everyone from my best friends, to my grandmother, trying to get a wide view on what beauty is. I found out that my 6 year old niece sees beauty in a smile, and my grandmother see,s it in a God-loving person. I was able to get a whole new insight when I interviewed my mother who told me beauty is in a caring and loving person. Even one of my best friends surprised me when she said beauty is about being a strong minded person.

Blog 22: answer 3

EQ: what is most significant when perceiving beauty in the U.S.?

Answer 3: looking up to celebrities as role models is significant when perceiving beauty because we usually base what we think is beautiful off the celebrities and modles that we think of as attractive.

Evidence: Young children look up to celebrities as someone they want to be, as role models.
Source: http://www.commonsensemedia.org/advice-for-parents/celebrity-role-models

Evidence: Our society looks to the models and celebrities in magazines as real, ideal beauty
Source: Interview 4: Dr. Freitas

Evidence: Teens become influenced by the celebrities to make themselves ‘look better'. So many times they forget that they are beautiful the way they are. They want to look perfect.

Blog 16: Ind. Component 2 Approval

(1) I will find out how the women around me define beauty. I will interview them, asking them questions like "who do you think is beautiful? how is it defined? how has your idea of beauty changed as you grew older? etc." I will get the views from all different age ranges, from 6 year olds to 60 year olds. and find out how all of their ideas match up. I =n the end, I will create a scrapbook, showing all of the women I intervied and what they said.

(2) How will it meet the 30 hr requirement?
I plan on interviewing 15 women, spending at least an hour talking to each of them. It will then take me at least an hour to put together each individual scrapbook page.

(3) How does your independent study component relate to your EQ?
My EQ is about the perception of beauty in our society, so it will be helpful to know how these individuals define beauty, and how it differs from person to person.

Blog 15: Independent Component

LIA:
Literal
(a) S: “I, Brittney Morales, affirm that I completed my independent component which represents 30 hours of work.”
(b) I created a video series on how to successfully compete in pageants. I Researched 5 topics, filmed videos on the information, and edited each video to show the research i did on competing in pageants.

Interpretive
This componet was basically a research compont, with the end result being a video series. I had to spend about 10 hours looking up different websites and blogs to find good information on pageants. When I found good information on different areas of competition, i would talk to my service learning contact to make sure what i was finding was correct and made sense. I also had to teach myself how to edit videos, which didn't really come out as good as i expected.

Applied
With my topic being Miss America, pageants are a big part of what im studying this year. I wanted  this component to help answer my essential question, but also help me with my service learning, and it did. My essential question is all about how one perceives beauty, and this video series is basically telling the viewers how to make the judges in pageants see you as beautiful. This helped me to see that people in our society are so used to changing themselves to fit the ideal vision of beauty. I do it when im trying to win a pageant and need the judges to see me as a winner, and old ladies do it when they get botox to look younger. This component helped me to see that there is more than just one side of the story. My EQ only asks about the person perceiving beauty, but this helped me to learn about the person being perceived, and how they change themselves to be seen in a better light, so to speak.
